Children’s is located in Atlanta, but its patients and staff touch lives around the globe. To visually represent the program’s global impact, Children’s is taking its transplant flag on a Flat Stanley-inspired journey. Atlanta residents know that when the flag is flown at a Children’s campus (about once a week) a child is receiving the gift of life. With the help of friends of the program, Children’s is now spreading the good news across the world. The flag’s global journey began in July 2008 when Michael Walsh, a Children’s Foundation board member, carried the flag on a seven-day trek to the “roof of Africa.” The journey’s second leg landed the flag in Belize when Rochelle Schmidt, a transplant pharmacist at Children’s, traveled there on her honeymoon.
